Old Testament References

  • Genesis 12:1-3 Abram told to leave his father’s house and go a land where God will make of him a great nation; those who curse Israel will be cursed.
  • Genesis 13:14-17 Delineates land given God will give Abram as an inheritance; his seed will be as the dust of the earth.
  • Gen. 17:1-22 God makes everlasting covenant with Abram, now called Abraham; father of many nations, land for an everlasting possession; circumcision is covenant; Sarai, now Sarah, will bear Isaac.
  • Gen. 18:17-19  Lord can trust Abraham; he will become a mighty nation that will bless all nations of the earth; he will teach his family.
  • Gen. 21:12 Covenant passes through Isaac.
  • Gen. 22:16-18 Repeats blessings of Abrahamic Covenant because he was willing to obey God’s voice and sacrifice Isaac. 
  • Gen. 26:3-5,24  Abrahamic Covenant given to Isaac for Abraham’s sake.
  • Gen. 28:2-4,13-15,20-22 Isaac gives Jacob same blessing of Abraham, Abrahamic Covenant given to Jacob by God, Jacob covenants back with God promising to obey and pay tithing.
  • Gen. 32:26-28 Jacob wrestles with the Lord who then changes his name to Israel.
  • JST Gen. 48:7 Jacob tells son Joseph how God gave Canaan to him and his posterity for everlasting possession.

  • Exodus 3 Lord hears Israel’s cry and remembers his covenant with Abraham; calls Moses to free the children of Israel and take them to the land God promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
  • Exodus 19:4-6 God freed people from Egyptians; if they keep his covenant, they will be a peculiar treasure and an holy nation.
  • Exodus 31:16-17 Sabbath is a sign of the covenant between God and Israel.
  • Deuteronomy 1:7-8 Go in and possess Canaan like God promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to give to them and their seed.

  • Isaiah 2:2-3 In last days, mountain of Lord’s house established; out of Zion the law, the word of the Lord out of Jerusalem.
  • Isaiah 11:12-13 Gather Israel from the four corners of the earth; Judah and Ephraim will not envy or vex each other.
  • Isaiah 41:8-13 Seed of Abraham gathered; they are chosen and not cast away; God will help them.
  • Isaiah 43:5 Seed of Abraham will be gathered from the east and from the west.
  • Isaiah 44:3 God’s spirit and blessing will be upon the seed of Jacob.
  • Isaiah 49:22-23 In latter days, gentile’s nurture the house of Israel; they will be nursing mothers and fathers and carry Israel upon their shoulders.

  • Jeremiah 3:11-15,18 God will not be angry with Israel forever; gather Israel from land of north to the promised land.
  • Jeremiah 16:14-16 Hunters and fishers sent to gather Israel.
  • Jeremiah 23:3-8 God will gather remnant of Israel from all countries; righteous branch of Davidic line will reign; Judah and Israel will dwell safely; this gathering will be remembered over Moses saving children of Israel in Egypt.
  • Jeremiah 31:31-34 Judah and Israel’s (Ephraim) wickedness in breaking Sinai Covenant but God will gather them again, make a new covenant with them, and forgive them. He will be their God and they will be his people again.
  • Jeremiah 32:32-44 Babylon will destroy and disperse Israel but I will bring them back to their land and make an everlasting covenant with them.
  • Ezekiel 37:15-23 The stick of Judah and the stick of Joseph will become one in God’s hands. He will gather all the children of Israel into one nation in Israel and they will have one king and be no more divided.
  • Zechariah 2:10-12 In the latter days the Lord will be in the midst of His people; Judah will have his portion in the holy land and shall have Jerusalem.
  • Zechariah 8:23 People will know that God is with the Jews.
  • Zechariah 10:6-9,12 House of Judah and house of Joseph shall be as though God had not cast them off; God will hear them and strengthen Judah and save Joseph.
  • Zechariah 12:1-10 In that day [the end times], the nations that come against Jerusalem shall be destroyed; Jerusalem will recognize their God.
  • Zechariah 14:1-3,9,11,14 In the day of the Lord all nations will fight against Jerusalem and destroy her but then the Lord will fight against the nations who fight Israel; all will know the one Lord; Jerusalem shall be inhabited again.
