Some of you may be familiar with the agitation that is going on at the present time, in the publications, against the Jewish people. There should be no ill-will, and I am sure there is none, in the heart of any true Latter-day Saint, toward the Jewish people. By the authority of the Holy Priesthood of God, that has again been restored to the earth, and by the ministration, under the direction of the Prophet of God, Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ have been to the Holy Land and have dedicated that country for the return of the Jews; and we believe that in the due time of the Lord they shall be in the favor of God again. And let no Latter-day Saint be guilty of taking any part in any crusade against these people. I believe in no other part of the world is there as good a feeling in the hearts of mankind toward the Jewish people as among the Latter-day Saints.
We as Latter-day Saints should be more friendly and kind to the Jewish people than anyone else for we should understand them better. No saints should take part against them.
Orson Hyde
. . . and I will here hazard the opinion, that by political power and influence, they [the Jews] will be gathered and built up; and, further, that England is destined, in the wisdom and economy of heaven, to stretch forth the arm of political power, and advance in the front ranks of this glorious enterprise.
January 1, 1842, Orson Hyde predicts that it will be England which will assist to bring about the gathering of the Jews in the area of ancient Israel. England did help; between 1917 and 1950 they were instrumental in helping found the modern state of Israel.
Wilford Woodruff
I wish in this testimony to say that the time is not far distant when the rich men among the Jews will be called upon to use their abundant wealth to gather the dispersed of Judah, and purchase the ancient dwelling places of their fathers in and about Jerusalem, and rebuild the holy city and temple.
For the fullness of the Gentiles has come in, and the Lord has decreed that the Jews should be gathered from all the Gentile nations where they have been driven, into their own land, in fulfillment of the words of Moses their lawgiver. And this is the will of your great Elohim, O house of Judah, and whenever you shall be called upon to perform this work, the God of Israel will help you.
This 1879 prophecy by Wilford Woodruff came to pass through the Rothchild family as well as other wealthy Jewish families. The Rothchild family was instrumental in many in helping the state of Israel. Other wealthy Jewish individuals and families also contributed to the Zionist movement, providing financial backing for Jewish immigration, land acquisition, and the establishment of institutions. However, historians note that the creation of Israel was the result of a complex mix of international diplomacy, mass migration, and political advocacy, with the Rothschilds being one influential group among many.
1845 Proclamation of the Twelve Apostles
And we further testify, that the Jews among all nations are hereby commanded, in the name of the Messiah, to prepare, to return to Jerusalem in Palestine; and to rebuild that city and temple unto the Lord:
And also to organize and establish their own political government, under their own rulers, judges, and governors in that country.
For be it known unto you, that the only salvation which remains for the Gentiles, is for them to be identified in the same covenant, and to worship at the same altar with Israel. In short, they must come to the same standard. For, there shall be one Lord, and his name one, and He shall be king over all the earth.
In that day all who are in the siege, both against Judea and against Jerusalem, shall be cut in pieces; though all the people of the earth should be gathered together against it.
This signal victory on the part of the Jews, so unlooked for by the nations, and attended with the personal advent of Messiah, and the accompanying events, will change the whole order of things in Europe and Asia, in regard to political and religious organization, and government.
The Jews as a nation become holy from that day forward; and their city and sanctuary becomes holy. There also the Messiah establishes his throne, and seat of government.
Jerusalem then becomes the seat of empire, and the great center and capital of the old world.
In 1845, Brigham Young and the other Twelve Apostles sent out this proclamation telling the Jews to return to their homeland, rebuild Jerusalem and the temple, and set up their own political government for their homeland. He also reminds members of the Church that our salvation depends on our being added to their covenant and joining with them.
David O. McKay
Michael [their guide] was vehement—under his breath—in his protestations that the Jews shall never rule Palestine.
Said I, “Michael, standing here on the street of David, this 2nd of November, 1921, I want to tell you something to remember! No matter how much the Mohammedans and the Greek Christians oppose the Jews coming back to Palestine, the Jews are coming and will possess this land!”
“Never,” he cried with emphasis and bitterness. “The streets will flow with blood first!”
“The streets may and undoubtedly will flow with blood,” I answered, “but that will not prevent the Jews possessing their land. Don’t you believe your Bible?”
“I know the Bible says Jerusalem will be rebuilt,” was his admission, “but the time hasn’t come yet.”
“Yes, the time has come.”
As I sat in my room thinking over the events of the day, only a hint of which I have here given, I was overwhelmed with the thought that we had witnessed on the 2nd of November the manifestation of a smoldering spirit of hatred which will some day in the near future cause much bloodshed!
I realized, too, the necessity of the presence of the British Government as the Protectorate of Palestine, and associated with all the events that have taken place since Lord Balfour’s declaration, the prophecy in the Book of Mormon that “The Gentiles shall be the means of restoring Israel to the Promised Land.” (See 1 Nephi 13.)
David O. McKay knew it was time for the Jews to return and regain their homeland in preparation for the Second Coming. Also, he was right that there would be much bloodshed between the Jews and the other groups.

Now our souls are thrilled to see our half brothers, the Jews, turning toward the land of promise; and for the first time since their long dispersion one of their own people, an orthodox Jew, is the ruler of the land of Palestine. The Jews will go there. God knows how to bring them. He did it in our case, and he knows how to bring them. They may say they will not go, but they will. The Lord will hedge up the way behind them, and he will open up the way before them, and unto his appointed place they shall go, in preparation for their conversion at the hands of the Master. For he shall come in the day of their trouble, to their deliverance. He will stand upon the Mount of Olives, which shall cleave in twain, and a valley shall open for their rescue from their oppressors; and when they come to the feet of their Deliverer they shall see the marks of the nails in his feet and in his hands, and shall say: “What are these wounds?” Then he shall say unto them: “I am Jesus Christ, who was crucified. These are the wounds I received in the house of my friends.” Then shall a nation be converted in a day, and shall respond and become God’s chosen people.
The Lord will help gather them just like he helped gather the Latter-day Saints “in preparation for their conversion” at His Second coming at the Mount of Olives. The assumption then must exist that they have to gather before they are converted, not after. A secular gathering is necessary before they accept Christ as their Messiah; this is the modern state of Israel.
